Our Guide to Self Care in the Silly Season

December. The month in which everything goes into overdrive.

Your Google calendar is filled to the brim like a kids stocking on Christmas Day, every person you run into ‘can’t believe it’s this time of year already’ and the petrol light is flickering on your energy levels as you roll down the hill to 2020.

It’s no wonder that they call it the silly season. And while we could tell you to meditate every day and zen your way to New Years Eve, we know that you’re not going to. So here’s some easy things you can do between mince pies and mimosas to keep yourself feeling human, with a few gift ideas (for your mates, or yourself!) thrown in for good measure.

H2o before you go-go

We’re getting the boring but important one out of the way first. The only way anyone can get through December’s social calendar is by staying hydrated. If you know you’re in for boozy festivities get your water in beforehand. Your body and your skin will thank you for it the next day and in the weeks to come.

Our self-care gift pick:
Frank Green’s new 1 litre ceramic/stainless steel water bottles are equally practical and cool. The straw lid makes for easy sipping and there are tonnes of colour combinations and monogramming options to choose from.

Two words: Sheet mask

If you are yet to experience the magic of a sheet mask, you’re in for a treat.

Woke up dusty after your work Christmas party? Sheet mask. Need a pep up before your family do? Sheet mask. Big Monday meeting after a big Sunday sesh? Sheet mask. These serum-drenched wonders can hide a multitude of sins.

Stress is one of the biggest triggers for skin troubles, and when you throw in a few late nights it’s a recipe for breakouts. A 20 minute date with a sheet mask a few times a week will help to keep your skin looking its best.

Our self-care gift pick:
Go-To’s Transformazing sheet masks are exactly what their name suggests. Store them in the fridge for cooling self-care after a day in the sun!

Would it be a TANBAE guide without mentioning tanning?

The answer is no. A golden faux glow can do wonders for your confidence. You might be feeling burned out and run down, but a bit of colour can elevate any outfit and make you feel good in your own skin. Schedule in some time with your tanning mitt once a week in the lead up to Christmas and keep the glow going with a gradual tanning moisturiser. It might be the last thing you feel like doing after a jam-packed day at work, but you’ll love yourself for it in the morning. Even more so if you’re waking up in our Body and Bed Protector because your skin will feel and look amazing, plus you won’t even have to wash your sheets.

Our self-care gift pick:
The Elle Effect by Elle Ferguson has been the ‘it’ tan of 2019, it offers a golden glow and smells like roses! Best paired with a good night’s sleep in our body and bed protector. Our silky soft Body and Bed Protector is the self-care step you can do in your sleep. It’s also the perfect Christmas gift! Shop here.

Remember to enjoy the ride

This ‘silly season’ we speak of is also referred to as 'the most wonderful time of the year’, so don’t forget to take it all in. Be grateful for what you have and enjoy spending time with the important people with your life. Most importantly, be kind to yourself, 2020 is just around the corner.
